PBKS vs RCB: RCB team after victory

PBKS vs RCB: Royal Challengers Bengaluru kept their playoffs hopes alive by defeating Punjab Kings in the 58th match of the IPL 2024 at Dharamshala. RCB won their fourth consecutive match and fifth overall, standing at 10 points in the table. RCB’s victory knocked out Punjab Kings from the playoffs race, and RCB had to win the rest of their matches as well to get a playoff ticket.

PBKS won the toss and decided to bowl first, and in the first over of the match, Virat Kohli’s catch got dropped. Kohli didn’t let that opportunity go wasted and started attacking the bowlers; meanwhile, skipper Faf got out in the third over. A few Catches got dropped after that, and Rajat Patidar started smashing the bowlers all over the park and scored his fifty in just 21 balls, but the batter got dismissed after that, and then Virat Kohli and Cameron Green did the partnership to take the team’s score to 200+ runs. Unfortunately, Kohli missed his century by 8 runs, and some valuable runs scored by Dinesh Karthik at the end took RCB to 241/7 at the end of 20 overs.

Chasing the huge total at their home ground, PBKS didn’t get the start needed and lost Prabhsimran Singh in the first over. However, the overseas pair of Rilee Rossouw and Jonny Bairstow gave the scare to RCB’s bowlers. PBKS posted 75 runs at the end of the powerplay, but after dismissing Bairstow with a score of 27, RCB made the comeback. PBKS’ batters started making mistakes, and the good fielding efforts of RCB maintained the pressure on Punjab Kings. PBKS got bowled out for 181 runs, and RCB registered a victory by 60 runs.

IPL 2024 58th Match PBKS vs RCB: Captains’ Corner

“That was a good game. We have scored 200-plus in the last 5-6 games. We have had good conversations, we were making the same mistakes over and over again. Needed aggression with the bat. We just spoke about taking wickets. We have 6-7 options in the bowling department. “You need some form in your side. With a bit of luck is also required. We had a few guys looking for wickets and runs at the start of the tournament. The boys have shown character to turn it around. Everyone has chipped in with runs and the bowlers are taking wickets. For us it’s important to focus on ourselves. We want to stick to the style of play that we want to do, if we do that it’ll prove we are a really good team.”

Faf du Plessis said Post-match

“A lot of positive signs throughout the season, but not enough to get over the line unfortunately. We knew that we had the best side for the rest of the tournament and feel gutted for the team. Gotta keep our heads up, keep learning and keep becoming better. “Really enjoyed leading a great bunch of guys, would have loved a few more wins. We had some highs, and some record run-chases as well,. Lots of disappointment and apologize to the fans, we will keep fighting. The ups and downs have been quite tough, but you gotta keep learning and keep working hard.”
