RCB vs RR: Virat Kohli and RR players shaking hands after match

RCB vs RR: Rajasthan Royals defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Eliminator match of the IPL 2024 to qualify for the Qualifier 2 match, which they will play against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday.

RR decided to bowl first, and RCB’s usual openers Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis were on the crease; they batted cautiously in the first over, and from the second, they started charging on the bowlers, but in the fifth, Faf departed while trying to hit a boundary over deep mid-wicket. After that, Virat Kohli was trapped by his former teammate Yuzvendra Chahal, and RCB lost both openers. Cameron Green and Rajat Patidar started accelerating the board, with Patidar hitting some great shots, and with both batters scoring runs, the target of 180+ was looking near. But Ravichandran Ashwin made a comeback by taking two back-to-back wickets. Down the order, Mahipal Lomror hit some runs, which took his team to 172 at the end of 20 overs.

Chasing 173, RR’s start was decent, with both openers scoring runs and RCB’s players dropping some catches, though Lockie Ferguson picked up the wicket of Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Yashasvi Jaiswal kept going from one end. He was joined by skipper Sanju Samson for a brief. RR’s was closing the chase gap. Two quick wickets by Sanju Samson and Yashasvi brought RCB back into the game. Riyan Parag handled the situation and scored valuable runs. It was Rovman Powell who ended the chase with a six as RR won the match by four wickets.

IPL 2024 Eliminator RCB vs RR: Captains’ Corner

What cricket and life has taught us is we will have some good and some really bad phases. But we need to have the character to bounce back. Really happy with the way we fielded, batted and bowled today. Credit to the bowlers, they are always looking at what the opposition batters would do and what fields to set. “Credit goes to Sanga and bowling coach Shane Bond as well. They’ve spent a lot of time in hotel rooms discussing these things. Plus Ashwin and Boult are experienced lads. (On Parag and Jaiswal) They are 22 each, so is Jurel. With very little experience, the way they are performing at this level is amazing.

“With the dew coming, we felt we were short with the bat. Did think we were 20 runs shy of what was a good score. Credit to the boys – they fought really well. That’s all you can ask for. If you look at naturally assessing the pitch and conditions, you would say it’s a 180 pitch because it was swinging upfront and was quite slow. “But what we’ve found out this season, with the impact player, the par score isn’t enough any more. Also with the dew coming in. Extremely proud. Lot of teams – their wheels would’ve fallen off after 1 from 9. To come back like that, six games in a row, takes a lot of heart and character. We weren’t special tonight in terms of pushing that extra 20 runs with the bat.”
